Generic Horror Conventions

Here are a list of Generic Horror Conventions. they are very simple but effective parts that have to be included in a film to make it a horror film. This information will allow us to hopefully create a film opening that meet the requirements of the horror genre.

- Blood – blood is a horror convention as it shows death and allows the audience to distinguish something bad has happened.

- Death – this can be seen as a horror convention as it is normal combined with the killer killing.

- Killing – this is a horror convention as most horror films need a killer or a set of killers.

- Victims – this help get the audience hook into the film as they can relate to the victims as themselves, also it means that the audience can try and guess how the next victim will die.

- Weapons – this always suggest something bad will happen with the weapon show in the scene.

- Darkness – this builds suspense among the audience about what will happen within the darkness and what is there as well.
